Heir of Fire Book Review!!!

Celaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak―but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life―and her future―forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?

SO much growth happened in this book! Celeana goes from kid in the castle who has some really talented fighting skills to magical warrior who comes to face herself. Although at times I can see where people say it’s slow, I liked it. Personally, if the slow moments are good, I like them because those are the most realistic things, like it’s not always action and adventure. So the progression from Celeana Sardothian to Aelin Ashryver Galathynius while her growing closer and closer to Rowan I thought was paced perfectly.

But speaking of that…Rowan and Aelin. Or as Tumblr likes to put it Rowalin.

I don’t know, like I’m not on the fence about it, but there I still want to see what becomes of Chaol. Because she’s been spending all this time with Rowan and for the entire book Chaol didn’t really have any growth until the end when all shit hits the fan, I felt like Chaol was really put on the back burner and Rowan got the spotlight. Which, was cool, don’t get me wrong, I’m just excited to see what happens in the next few books. My one thing with Rowan was that I started to get annoyed by his lack of warriorness. He’s talked up as such a stone cold, warrior with such “lethal calmness” countless times yet whenever he was in a fight…

He ran from the skinwalkers.

Ran from the Valg.

And he AND his deadly warrior comrades were almost overrun by a measly 200 soldiers…

I don’t know, that was just a little disappointing. I wanted to see him in action–like real action. No just punching Celeana once or killing one or two soldiers. From the way he was talked up, I expected Rowan to be able to take the 200 men on blindfolded with one hand behind his back…

But other than that, I really love the character and can’t wait to go on more adventures.

But I’d have to say, my favorite character from Heir of Fire was Manon Blackbeak.

Brining a witch into the action is amazing. Manon is so tactical, thought out and brilliant while not being overbearing or obnoxious. Granted she was contrasted to Irshka who could’t look at a brick wall without grinning, but still, Manon was the lethal calm. And her Thirteen…

My goodness. This squadron of witches are probably one of, if not my favorite addition to this already amazing series.

But in the midst of being surrounded by the most ruthless bloodline in existence, Manon reverberates an ethos that I can’t wait to see come to fruition. What I mean by that is, MANON TOTALLY HAS A HEART AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT HER. I can’t wait to see who she becomes and what becomes of her thirteen and the relationships and of Arbraxos (I know I probs misspelled that.) Idk, she was so unique and special and her character is going to go through so much I feel. WHICH, brings me to a theory…

It’s a little far fetched, but at the same time it isn’t…

I found something odd while looking at the books. Celeana Sardothian is supposed to have blonde hair and in the first two books she’s often wearing gowns and things and as dumb as it’d be to portray her on the cover wearing that because it doesn’t really capture Celeana, the cover art is interesting.

Celeana doesn’t have white hair, but you know who does? Manon Blackbeak.

Celeana doesn’t always wear lethal rouge clothing, but you know who does.

And Celeana doesn’t have a red cape, BUT YOU KNOW WHO DOES.

I’m just saying, could it be a possibility that the girl we see on the cover isn’t Celeana Sardothian but is actual Manon Blackbeak? If you have anything to comment on this I’d love to hear it, even if it debunks my theory!

Whether it’s true or not, I’m still really curious to see what paths Manon takes.

Drifting to one of the other Magical characters, Dorian.

Him and Sorcha were so cute, and I loved the simplicity of their relationship. But why didn’t Dorian freeze the place before you know what happened rather than after. I get it, the arrow was going for Chaol and Dorian had cracked after you know what happened, but I just feel like he would have exploded to stop it, you know?

Nevertheless, I nervous for the prince. He’s been one of my favorite characters for a while, and although he still wasn’t as funny as he was in the first book, I still root for him.

And what of Aedion Ashryver.

As much as the brute started off on a bad note, he’s the only one who I really felt like lived up to his expectations. In that alley, he took down six me effortlessly, as he was expected. And he remained a brute, caring about his kingdom and doing what was just. For as disrespectful as he was at times, he’s a respectable character. I’ve seen some things around tumblr mixing him and Aelin, but I do hope that’s not the case. Geesh if it is at this rate the books could just be called:

Book One: Dorian

Book Two: Chaol

Book Three: Sort of Rowan

Book Four: (This complicated thing between all the previous and also introducing..) Aedion

I saw this on Tumblr and being behind the first wave craze of this series this is how I feel sometimes…

I loved the book. I love the series.

Rating: 8.5/10

Queen of Shadows just came in the mail but a little sibling hid it somewhere (Idk why but she likes to hide the books I’m reading for some reason so as soon as it came in the mail she was like oh can I see it and Naturally I was like sure and then she ran off and I have no clue where she put)

I’ll be sure to start Queen of Shadows soon and I can’t wait to continue the adventure.

What are your thoughts on the TOG series?? Who’s your favorite character? Please don’t spoil anything from QoS!

I’ll try and start it tonight! I’ve also just started reading Harry Potter for the first time ever (haven’t seen the movies, aside from like the first two when I was little.) So my reading wants are quite extreme!

  1. I kind of felt a bit like Heir of Fire was a bit of a filler book. There is a lot more world building and new characters introduced but it felt like it was just building up to QoS.

I do love Rowan but I think it’s more the dynamic between him and Aelin that I enjoy most.

    1. Yeah I can see where people may feel that way. But at the same time all those new characters got a good introduction rather than just flop here they are. I’m excited to see who this black haired girl in QoS is now tho because if she’s new and didn’t have any filler in HoF I’ll be a little bummed idk we’ll see! But I’m also a sucker for world building and character building stuff!
